The goalAcquisition of skills in all conventional, automatic and serological methods of laboratory diagnostics of bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections of animals.
The outcomeStudents should learn how to choose the appropriate diagnostic methods depending on specimen type. They should also know how to readily apply the chosen methods and to prepare culture media; to perform sterilization and interpret the obtained results.

Contents of lecturesThe basic principles of sampling and shipping of material for bacteriological, virological, mycological and parasitological examinations. The principles of isolation and identification of pathogenic microorganisms. Bacteriological methods of examination. Virological methods of examination. Mycological methods of examination. Parasitological methods of examination.
Contents of exercisesProcessing of material. The making of microscopic preparations, staining. The technique of inoculation of material and isolation of microorganisms in pure culture. Biochemical characterizatzion of isolated microorganisms - classical way of examination and application of automatic identification systems. Biological assay. Serological reactions. Coprological examination.
