    The goalTo acquire knowledge on bee infectious disease and skills that are important in order to recognize symptoms, to diagnose and to control and eradicate diseases of bee-hive and bees.
    The outcomeStudent should acquire knowledge on the basic elements, to understand pathological processes, to recognize first symptoms and to perform differential diagnosis on bee-hive as well as bee diseases. Student should acquire knowledge how to take sample for laboratory diagnosis, to perform specific laboratory tests and procedures and to apply appropriate treatment and therapy.

    Contents of lecturesAdult bee diseases. Clinical symptoms, sampling, diagnosis, treatment and control measures of diseases as follows: Spring (May) disease, aspergilosis, nosemosis, amebosis, akarosis, senotenijasis, bee septicemia, bee paratyphus, bee paralysis, varrosis, braulosis, Tropilelaps clare infestation, viral bee diseases (wing deformation, cloudy wing disease, Kashmir disease, apis iridiscent virus. Bee-hive diseases. Clinical symptoms, sampling, diagnosis, treatment and control measures of diseases as follows: American and European foul brood, stone and chalk foul brood, sac brood, etinosis, mycoses. Bee Queen diseases and anomaly: melanosis, unfertilized eggs, catalepsies, hereditary anomalies, genital passages and oviduct obstruction. Insect immune mechanisms, role of the haemolymph, apidecines. Veterinary and sanitary measures to control bee diseases.
    Contents of exercisesSampling, packing and transportation of the sample from bee-hive and bee in order to perform laboratory testing of infectious diseases of bees. Microbiology methods in diagnosis of nosemosis, acarosis, varrosis, braulosis, bee paralysis, spring (May) disease and Tropilaelaps clarae. Virological methods in order to diagnose bee viral diseases (insect tissue culture, serological methods). Diagnostic work on American and European foul brood diseases, stone and chalk brood disease, sac brood diagnosis. OIE recommendations for control and eradication of bee diseases.
