      The goalThe aim of the course is that students perceive tissue homeostasis through the prism of dynamic self-renewal and regeneration of tissues and organs. The program should enable students to better understand the different pathological processes such as neoplastic processes, acute and chronic inflammation and degeneration during aging. In addition, this course is an introduction to regenerative medicine.
      The outcomeKnowledge of the regenerative capacity of different tissues and the possibility to apply this knowledge to test stem cells.
      Contents
      Contents of lecturesStem cells (SC): definition, classification and origin of the different types. The differentiation of cells. Explanation of terms: Totipotent, pluripotent, multipotent and unipotent. Cloning. Embryonic and fetal SC. SC from umbilical cord blood and Wharton jelly. Hematopoietic SC. Angiogenesis. Mesenchymal SC. Osteogenesis. Chondrogenesis. Adipogenesis. SC originating from the endoderm and ectoderm. Tissues with higher and lower regenerative potential: the nervous system, muscle, endothelium, liver. Induced pluripotent SC. Cryopreservation of cells. Clinical application. Tissue engineering. Biomaterials and biocompatibility. The reaction of tissue to biomaterials.
