      The goalThe subject aims to provide students basic knowledge about application of molecular genetics methods in exploration of ecology, behaviour and protection of wild animals.
      The outcomeA student should ackquire basic knowledge in application of molecular genetics techniques in preservation, control and protection of autochtonous, endemic and relict species of wild animals. Also, student should become capable to prevent specific diseases of wild animals, caused by changes in the environment. By using molecular genetic techniques, students have to be trained to monitor relevant genes and their products in programmes of rearing, selection and increase of resistance to diseases

      Contents of lecturesTheoretical instructions: Genetic analysis and gene maps of wild animals. Application of molecular genetics techniques in the analysis of genome and monitoring of zoogeographical origin of wild animals. Molecular adaptations and genomics of wild animals. Genetics of behaviour. Genetics of wild animals protection and biodiversity. Preservation, control and protection of autochtonous, endemic and relict species of wild animals. Application of molecular genetics methods in prevention of specific diseases of wild animals caused by changes in the environment. Monitoring of relevant genes and their products in programmes of rearing, selection and increase of resistance to diseases using the molecular genetics techniques.
      Contents of exercisesIndependent research activities: DNA isolation, amplification of conserved regions of mitochondrial DNA, amplification of nuclear DNA microsatellites (PCR, real-time PCR, RT-PCR, PCR-RFLP, LAMP), visualisation of results by gel electrophoresis and DNA sequencing, analysis of the obtained results with an aim to monitor molecular ecology of wild animals, detection and identification of pathogenes and parasistes of wild animals and forensic cases.
