The goal | Students will learn the types of infertility in domestic, laboratory and wild animals and expand knowledge obtained in previous courses. To enable the student to differentiate physiological and pathophysiological changes in reproductive tract, to understand temporary and permanent infertility; to effectively use knowledge from courses from previous years of study and understand the outcome of changes and illnesses. | |||
The outcome | After successfully finishing the course students will gain the following: Knowledge of the form, occurrence of infertility, the course and duration of infertility with the knowledge of nutrition disorders, metabolic disorders, hormonal disorders and the metabolically status of the animal and flocks in male and female animals; detailed knowledge of the testing protocol and determination of the mechanisms of hormonal regulation and metabolic regulations that occur in the reproductive tract; Specificity of the infertility in ruminants, equidae, pigs, carnivorae and birds. | |||

Contents of lectures | Reproductive disorders in female animals, ovarian dysfunctions, anoestrus, ovarian abnormalities, suboestrus, nymphomania, prolonged oestrus, "split" oestrus, physiological mechanisms of the oestral cycle, endocrine disorders, ovulatory disorders, fertilization disorders, fertilization interference; abnormalities of the ovum, abnormalities of the sperm cell, structural barriers of fertilization, atypical fertilization, embryonic losses, embryonic loss, embryonic death, early embryonic death, fetal mortality, prenatal and neonatal mortality, gestation disorders, puerperal disorders, retention of the fetal membranes, uterine infections and congenital malformations. Reproductive malformations in males, ejaculatory disorders, congenital malformations, cryphorhism, testicular aplasia, sperm abnormalities, testicular diseases and diseases of the accessory genital glands, inability to mate, inability to fertilize, infertility and chromosomal aberration, mineral deficiencies and toxic agents. | |||
Contents of exercises | Examination of the ovum of domestic animals, examinations of follicules and cysts on the ovaries of cows and mares, folliculometry with an ultrasound, examination of abnormal ejaculates in bulls, stallion, boar, ram and billy goat. | |||

Methods of teaching | Teaching methods: Theoretical teaching with interactive learning, using audio-visual methods (PowerPoint presentations, films), practical exercises in healthy and sick animals and practical work at the Clinic for Reproduction, fertility and AI, as well as on farms of cows, sheep and pigs. | |||
